My wife and I were not exactly newcomers to the US-business and –legal environment when we met Petra Korn, but we had always ended up with pretty much the same insight: Your legal counsel will not act in your best interest – but (at least primarily) in his own! He will produce as many chargeable hours as possible before solving your problem, i.e., if he solves it at all. So when we bought another house in L.A., dealt with the bank to finance it, had structuring issues with regard to the appropriate legal entity or went through all the ‘red tape’ with government authorities, we experienced Petra as our ‘one stop legal shop’ who acted in good faith and never went anywhere near any issues of overcharging. She would initially seek to negotiate a flat fee, so both parties knew what to expect, and base it on a reasonable and transparent assumption of workload and complexity of the issue.
